Earlier this week Katie Price was handed a 16-month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to drink-driving while disqualified and without insurance at Crawley Magistrates’ Court, meaning she won’t face jail time following a car crash near in Horsham, West Sussex back in September.
Although district judge Amanda Kelly told the former model that she “deserves to spend Christmas behind bars”, Katie received a suspended jail term, a two-year-driving ban, 100 hours of community service and 20 sessions of rehabilitation work with probation. She was also ordered to pay a further £213 in costs on top of the £7,358 she already owes the court.
Katie began trending on social media in the aftermath of her court date, with many users insisting she got off too lightly given the fact she has six previous driving offences and was banned at the time of the crash. Now, Sussex Police have confirmed they are looking to making an appeal against the verdict.
Superintendent James Collis, head of roads policing for Sussex Police and Surrey Police, said, “As the judge explained, [the sentence] could have and should have been much worse and, in our view, Price is extremely lucky not to be spending Christmas behind bars.
“Given the circumstances and her history of motoring offences, it’s clear she did not consider the risk of her actions to the wider public or the implications for her own family.
“We are now exploring whether we can appeal this sentence.”

This comes after Katie’s ex-husband Kieran Hayler, with whom she shares son Jett, eight, and daughter Bunny, seven, broke his silence on the court verdict and insisted his former wife “should be in prison”.
“It is one of the most serious things you can get done for on the road short of killing someone. It is so serious. Someone will get hurt if Katie is allowed to carry on the way she is,” he told The Sun.
“When I saw she had been arrested, I thought, ‘Oh no, not again’. It is just always so much drama. A lot of drama.”

Yesterday, Katie issued a statement about the sentencing on her Instagram story and apologised for her actions which caused the crash, leaving her BMW flipped on its side with the mum-of-five slumped in the passenger seat until a passer-by helped her escape through a window.
Katie wrote, “It's been a really difficult time and I'm incredibly sorry for my actions - I'm sincerely grateful nobody was hurt - I realise the damage my actions could have caused not only to another family, but my own as well."
She continued, “I'm now spending time getting better - mental health is a hidden illness and can strike at any time. The triggers that cause my anxiety and behaviour are something I'm trying to understand, come to terms with and learn to control moving forward.
"This will be a long process for myself, and one I'll continue to work on for the rest of my life. It's also something I can work on with my family so we can progress on a new chapter together."
