Supporting husband Wayne at the Soccer Aid charity football match in Manchester last week, Coleen Rooney drew attention from fans, who were shocked by her new look.
Pictures of the mum of four smiling from the stands racked up hundreds of comments from social media users musing over how different her face looked. One wrote, “New teeth, or lips… something has changed, she looks different,” while another posted, “What has she done to her face?!” Others said, “Omg her face!!!”, and, “Doesn’t even look like her!”
And sources have told Closer that Coleen, 35, has splashed out on non-surgical treatments as she prepares for her high-profile High Court trial against WAG Rebekah Vardy, which could take place in just a few months’ time.
The source says, “Coleen knows her fans love her girl-next-door-image and following her life as a busy mum, but she’s been so determined to look the best she can ahead of this trial, when she knows all eyes will be on her.
“It’s all non-surgical procedures like laser, lip fillers and Botox, as well as EMSculpt [a non-invasive clinical treatment that is said to build muscle and burn fat], and she’s hired a new image consultant to give her a sexy and sophisticated new look. It has given her a huge confidence lift.”
It’s been a stressful two years for Coleen since she first accused former friend Rebekah of selling stories on her and her family following an Instagram “sting”. Rebekah, who alleged she suffered anxiety and panic attacks following the claims, which she vehemently denies, is suing Coleen for libel in a bid to “vindicate [her] reputation”.
As well as the strain of the upcoming trial, Closer reported last month how Coleen was left humiliated when Wayne was forced to publicly apologise after a string of embarrassing snaps of him looking worse for wear in a nightclub in July – and then in a hotel room alongside three scantily 21-year-old women – went viral on social media. The women all insisted nothing untoward had happened.
It followed years of the couple’s marriage being rocked by scandals, including Wayne cheating with a number of prostitutes, being caught in compromising positions with other women while boozing and admitting to being addicted to gambling after losing £500,000 in a two-hour spree at a Casino in Manchester. Despite his misdemeanours, Coleen has always stood by her husband.
The source adds, “Coleen has been through a tough time personally, but always stayed strong for her family and now she wanted to do something for herself. Her new look has helped her to feel positive, which is just what she needs at the moment.”
But despite her beauty overhaul giving her the boost she needs, Harley Street Cosmetic Practitioner Amar Suchde, of AMS Aesthetics, warns that turning to non-cosmetic surgery to “fix” any emotional turmoil could be the start of a destructive path to addiction.
Amar says, “Coleen looks great – she appears to have had fillers in her cheeks, lips and under her eyes, and possibly Botox on her forehead. She has just the right balance for her face, but it’s important she doesn’t go overboard and become addicted, which can easily happen.
“People can become addicted to that ‘fresh and plumped’ look you get straight after having non-surgical work, such as fillers, because of the happiness boost it gives them. So, while it makes people who are going through difficult times – which may be the case with Coleen – feel good, it’s important not to become hooked on that high.
“Aesthetics is such a powerful tool as you can really build esteem and morale, because all men and women want to look good – but there’s a difference between confidence and happiness.”
Closer recently revealed how Coleen has also been doing everything she can to stay in optimum physical and mental health through her recent tough times.
She’s posted pictures on Instagram of herself enjoying green juices, as well as double workout sessions of Pilates and hot yoga, and a source added how she’s also ditched “anything that could cause a dip in her mood and focus” from her diet – like starchy white bread and pasta, and high-sugar snacks.

Victoria Beckham
One half of the indestructible Beckham brand, Victoria was the original Queen WAG in 2006. At the time Victoria had been married to David for seven years and had just given birth to her third boy, Cruz. She had also just launched her denim line, dvb Style and walked the catwalk for Roberto Cavalli. Over a decade later, she is a fully fledged and well respected fashion designer, with a fourth addition to her brood – the adorable Harper.
Coleen Rooney
Coleen rose to fame as a WAG at just 20 years old. Coleen and Wayne are married and they celebrated their ten-year anniversary in 2018. However, Wayne's repeated cheating has strained the relationship over the years. They have four children together, Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass. Since 2006 Coleen has released a fitness DVD, been a style advisor for Littlewoods and even had a column with us in Closer magazine.
Cheryl
How could we forget Cheryl as a WAG? Back then, 23-year-old Cheryl was a popstar in Girls Aloud who had just married Ashley Cole. Nowadays, Cheryl is a household name and a worldwide celebrity in her own right. After splitting from Ashley in 2010, she had a successful (well, successful-ish) solo career, was a judge on The X Factor and was the face of beauty brand L'Oreal. She married Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini in 2016 but they divorced three months later. Most recently, Cheryl separated from One Direction singer, Liam Payne, who she has a baby son called Bearwith.
Abbey Clancy
Abbey first grabbed our attention in 2006 as one of the finalists in Britain's Next Top Model. She began dating Peter Crouch that same year and the pair are now married with three kids Sophia Ruby, Liberty Rose and baby Johnny. Lingerie model Abbey went on to win Strictly Come Dancing in 2013 and she returned to Britain's Next Top Model as the show's presenter. Not bad work, eh?
Danielle Lloyd
Danielle Lloyd was dating footballer Teddy Sheringham when she gained her WAG status. At the time, her title as Miss Great Britain was a controversial matter and she was later stripped of it. Fast forward to now and Danielle has appeared on TV shows such as Celebrity Big Brother, Total Wipeout, The Weakest Link and even Come Dine With Me. She has three sons, Archie, Harry and George with her now ex-husband Jamie O'Hara. Danielle gave birth to a fourth child with her husband Michael O'Neill, Ronnie, in 2017.
Elen Rivas
Elen Rivas was engaged to Frank Lampard at the time of the 2006 World Cup, and was a permanent fixture in the WAG circle. After splitting from Frank after a seven-year relationship, she dated Peter Andre, appeared on Dancing On Ice and now looks after her two daughters Luna and Isla while working as a model. Frank has since married TV presenter Christine Bleakley and they've welcomed their daughter Patricia into the world.
Louise Owen
Despite being married to one of the most famous footballers at the time, Louise Owen wasn't your stereotype WAG. She has always managed to keep her distance from the limelight. Her passion is rescuing race horses and she currently lives in Wales with her husband Michael and their four children, Gemma, James, Jessica and Emily.
Carly Zucker
Now known as Carly Cole after marrying midfielder Joe Cole in Chelsea in 2009, Carly loved to party during the 2006 World Cup (we know the feeling). She then spent two weeks in the jungle during I'm A Celeb in 2009 before being the third to be booted out. Carly and Joe have had three children, Ruby, Harrison and Max together.
Alex Curran
Former nail technician Alex Curran began dating Liverpool player Steven Gerrard in 2002. She was one of the leading figures in the 2006 WAG squad. The pair married in 2007 and they have had four children together, Lexie, Lio, Lord, Lilly-Ella. Fashion lover Alex has released a perfume, fronted a Lipsy campaign and written a weekly shopping column for a national newspaper.
Sources also claim Coleen’s latest transformation could give her the boost she needs to relaunch her career in TV, having previously hosted ITV series Coleen’s Real Women and assisted Sir Trevor McDonald on his show Tonight With Trevor McDonald in a programme about the genetic disorder Rett syndrome, from which her late younger sister, Rosie, suffered.
The source says, “Coleen and Wayne are currently filming a biopic film about his life, and having cameras following them around has given her a taste of that world again. She would love to go back into TV, and it’s more achievable now that the boys are older. She wants to look and feel the best she possibly can.”

‘It’s a form of battle armour’
Closer’s psychological therapist Emma Kenny believes Coleen is changing her looks as a form of “battle armour” ahead of the trial, but warns it’s a slippery slope. She says, “Coleen knows all eyes will be on her during the upcoming trial and she wants to look rejuvenated and at her best – having a brand-new look is like a form of battle armour for her, an extra layer of confidence before she hits the stand.
“But changing your look is a slippery slope – she shouldn’t use it as a quick fix to make her feel more confident when she’s going through stressful and difficult times. Coleen is still young and attractive and doesn’t need these enhancing treatments.
“Also, Wayne seems to have a wandering eye, so that may have caused her to have some insecurities. She’s a brilliant mother and has been a very loyal wife, and I hope she recognises she’s more than enough for anyone.
“Ultimately, if she does have any insecurities, it would be better for Coleen to change the way she feels, rather than the way she looks. Going to see a practitioner or therapist could help her to understand her considerable self-worth.”
