Holly Willoughby hair mistake

From co-presenting the hottest gig on telly to her enviable wardrobe, it would be very easy to believe Holly Willoughby has it ALL. However, even Holly Willoughby has had her fair few beauty disasters of the hair-dye variety, and now she's divulged all the glorious details.

Turns out the This Morning star is pretty bloody relatable.

The 39-year-old explained, "I went red by accident, when I was much, much younger, and I used to kind of experiment with my hair, and I'd gone blonde through using those kind of beach spray blondes.

"So I came back home and thought 'Oh, I better just put this dark hair dye over the top.' And, obviously, I mean, I'm not a colourist, but that was a disaster because it didn't go brown, it went red. But not even like a nice red, and also red, it did not suit me, but I had to stay like that for ages until the colour grew out.

"So I get with home hair colour why people are nervous, because I have had my own disasters too," she said in a video for British Vogue's Vogue Night In series.

Holly has since come leaps and bounds with the whole hair dye lark and is even an ambassador for Garnier; her shade Natural Baby Blonde is forever selling out.

She posted an IGTV revealing she dyes her hair at home (no fancy foils for Holly) and explained how she is a huge fan of the Garnier hair dye.

Holly told her fans.“It’s so quick and easy and it doesn’t damage my hair. My hair has been in better condition since doing this as I’m not layering up tonnes and tonnes of highlights."

How to keep your coloured hair fresh and long-lasting:

  1. Try a dedicated colour-locking shampoo or conditioner. If you are blonde, a purple shampoo will keep your hair non-brassy.
  1. Limit your hair-washing days. Aim to wash you hair at least every other day if you are guilty of over washing.
  1. Turn down the water temperature when shampooing. Hot water can make dye bleed from your hair prematurely. Switch to cold, if you can handle it.
