Peggy Lawrence has been a regular fixture in the headlines recently, amid her messy and public split from Married At First Sight husband, Georges Berthonneau. The reality star announced they had parted ways on Instagram last month, sparking a tit-for-tat battle, including claims that Georges was unfaithful in December – something he has strenuously denied.
And in an exclusive chat with Closer, Peggy reveals she’s feeling stronger every day in the wake of her heartbreak and is looking optimistically to the future.
Opening up about her hurt, Peggy says, “I’m truly gutted that Georges ended things without revealing the real reason why. I feel like I’ve had a couple of months now to get over it. I actually did think that Georges fell in love with me at one point, but his actions have proven otherwise. I felt settled with him, so it’s a shame it didn’t work out.
“I believe in karma and what goes around comes around – good things come to good people. For now, I’m just going to ride it out, focus on myself and think that everything happens for a reason.”
Former technology risk partner Peggy, 33, and Georges, 31, first met on their wedding day for the E4 show last series, with fans bearing witness to their roller-coaster journey on screen. Since their break-up, Georges alleged that his ex-wife – who hails from Kent – had been approached to join the cast of TOWIE. And while Peggy is close pals with TOWIE stars Chloe Brockett and Junaid Ahmed, she says there aren’t any solid plans for her to join the show.
“Georges is trying to make people think I did MAFS for TV exposure, which I didn’t,” Peggy insists.
“I’m not saying I wouldn’t do it, but it’s just a rumour. I am friends with a lot of the cast, they’re like my family. I’ve known them for years.”
Meanwhile, getting back onto the dating scene is not a priority for Peggy, as she admits she finds it even harder to trust people since her relationship broke down.
She says, “I don’t want to be with anyone unless they add something to my life. I don’t want to be with someone who doesn’t appreciate me. I’m ready for a family now, so I can’t waste time with people who don’t know what they want.”
But she tells Closer that she still believes in love and will keep searching when she’s over her break-up. Discussing her dream man, Peggy smiles, “My ideal guy would be Tom Hardy because he’s just amazing, isn’t he? I’m trying to think who I would be with... probably Callum [Jones] from Love Island. I’ve met him in real life and he’s lovely. Cillian Murphy… I love him in Peaky Blinders_,_ but I’m probably a bit tall for him.”
While Peggy starred on MAFS UK, a decade-old clip of her appearing on Take Me Out resurfaced, with fans commenting on her strikingly different appearance. She also revealed her boob job on the show.
And now, she opens up about going under the knife and the misconceptions people have about her tweakments.
She says, “A lot of people think I’ve had loads of work done – that’s frustrating. I feel like whatever makes you more confident, do it. As long as you’re doing it for yourself, it doesn’t matter what other people think.”
Since Peggy gave up her job as a tech risk partner, she’s been throwing herself into a slew of fashion opportunities, and reveals there’s an exciting possibility on the horizon.
“I’m actually in talks with my management and a TV commissioner for my own fashion show,” she says.
“I want people to just love what they’re wearing and feel confident. I’m so excited about this new opportunity. I didn’t find love on MAFS or my soulmate, but I’ve found my passion and my future. My motto for 2024 is to just smash it in fashion and do what makes me happy.”
