There's no two ways about it - from Brexit and Trump, to GBBO moving to Channel 4 and Len Goodman leaving Strictly Come Dancing, 2016 was one hell of a drama-filled year. Especially in the world of celebrity relationships.
Because although we gained some AMAZING new couples (hiya Cheryl and Liam!), some of our favourite celebrity couples didn't make it through the year together. Sob.
Here's our rundown of the most shocking, sad and unxexpected celebrity splits of 2016...
Georgia May Foote and Sean Ward
The first celebrity couple to split in 2016 was Strictly Come Dancing's Georgia May Foote and Sean Ward. The former Coronation Street stars were dating for seven months before falling victim to the Strictly curse. According to a source, Sean found Georgia's relationship with her dance partner Giovanni Pierce difficult and pushed her away.
Sheridan Smith and Greg Wood
Gavin and Stacey actress Sheridan Smith and former Hollyoaks actor Greg Wood split at the beginning on January. According to The Sun the pair had previously separated after Sheridan accused Greg of cheating on her with his co-worker and on-screen girlfriend Tamara Wall. And although they reunited they split for good in the New Year following a holiday together.
Mollie King and David Gandy
Everyone was devastated when the stunning couple Mollie King and David Gandy split in January. The Saturdays singer and model began dating in 2011, but decided to part ways when they couldn't agree on future family plans.
Stephanie Davis and Sam Reece
One of the most public splits of the year - when Stephanie Davis entered the Celebrity Big Brother house she was in a relationship with Sam Reece. But when Steph fell for model Jeremy McConnell it became obvious that her relationship with Sam was over.
Rebecca Adlington and Harry Needs
Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington and her husband of 18-months Harry Needs split in early March. The pair started dating in June 2011 and tied the knot in August 2014. Even though they have now separated, they remain friends and devoted parents to their daughter, Summer.
Billie Piper and Laurence Fox
After eight years of marriage, Billie Piper and Laurence Fox called it quits. A post on Laurence's Facebook page read: "Laurence Fox and Billie Piper have separated. No third parties are involved. For the sake of our family we request and appeal for space and privacy at this time." The couple tied the knot in December 2007, a year after they first met, and have two sons together - Winston, seven, and Eugene, three.
Jorgie Porter and Luther Burrell
After just four months of dating, ex-Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter split from her rugby star boyfriend Luther Burrell citing their busy work schedules.
Natasha Hamilton and Ritchie Neville
Natasha Hamilton and Ritchie Neville's relationship came to an end just five months after the pair announced their engaged. The couple have an adorable daughter together, Ella Rose, and although Ritchie didn't attend his daughter's christening, he remains a part of her everyday life. The Atomic Kitten singer has since moved on and is now engaged to her partner Charles Gay.
Jodie Marsh and James Placido
In April Jodie Marsh surprised everyone when she announced that she had split from her husband James Placido. The divorce soon turned ugly, with Jodie tweeting: "Oh and if any ladies are having the 'pleasure' of sex with James right now; don't give him any money, don't leave him alone in your house..." Ouch!
Stephanie Davis and Jeremy McConnell
Stephanie Davis and Jeremy McConnell's relationship was pretty tumultuous, so no one was particularly shocked when they finally parted ways in May. What did come as a shock was Steph's announcement, just weeks later, that she was pregnant with Jez's child.
Lydia Bright and Arg
Everyone was devastated when original TOWIE lovebirds Lydia Bright and James 'Arg' Argent called time on their relationship once and for all in May. Although Arg seemed confident that they were on a break and would hopefully one day reunite, Lydia made it clear that she's happier and stronger without him.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard

Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris
After 15 months of cute PDAs, Instagram pictures and basically being one of the world's most loved showbiz couples, Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris parted ways. An insider told People: "There was no drama. Things just don't work out sometimes."
However, just a few weeks later, Taylor was photographed canoodling with Tom Hiddleston and a Twitter war ensued. So much for remaining friends, eh!
Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney
After five happy years together, Lady Gaga and her fiancé Taylor Kinney split in July citing the pressures of thier careers. Despite the sad news, the pair vowed to remain friends. Yay!
Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger
After 10 years together, Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger - one of the coolest couples in Hollywood - decided to call it a day. A spokesperson told People Magazine: "[They] have decided to separate and remain friends."
Brooklyn Beckham and Chloe Mortez
They were young, incredibly good looking, and seemingly in love, but sadly it wasn't to be. In September Brooklyn Beckham and Chloe Mortez ended their relationship for good. Such a shame!
Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston split
Probably one of the most controversial couples of 2016 - the world was shocked when Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston were pictured together just weeks after Taylors split from Calvin Harris. And after three months of pretty extreme international PDAs Taylor and Tom called it quits. Out of control publicity stunt or true love... we're still not really sure...
Georgia May Foote and Giovanni Pierce
After splitting with her ex-boyfriend Sean Ward, Georgia then started dating her Strictly dance partner Giovanni, however after several months together and engagement rumours the pair split. Georgia announced the news of Twitter, admitting: "Sometimes you realise that it is better to be friends and this is one of those times."
Ryan Thomas and Lara Martin
Not only did former Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas, who played Jason Grimshaw, quit the show after 15 years, he also split from his girlfriend Lara Martin. A source close to the pair told The Sun: "Ryan and Lara tried hard to find time for each other, but they both lead busy lives and became more and more distanced from each other – literally."
Brangelina
They were arguably the world's most famous - and glamorous - couple, so when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt announced they were separating, it made headlines around the world. The pair were together for over ten years and have six children together, but after just two years of marriage Angelina filed for divorce citing 'irreconcilable differences'. A source told TMZ: "Angelina's decision to file has to do with the way Brad was parenting the children, she was extremely upset with his methods."
Stevi Ritchie and Chloe-Jasmin Whichello
Just two months after tieing the knot on a yacht (possibly because it rhymes?), former X Factor contestants (and world's most unlikely couple) Stevie Ritchie and Chloe-Jasmin Whichello split. To be honest, most people were still getting over the fact they were together in the first place!
Mariah Carey and James Packer
It seemed like Mariah Carey had finally found her dream lover, however her engagement to billionaire James Packer was dramatically called off in October amidst rumours that the singer was 'excessively spending' money. Mariah, however, hit back at the claims branding James a 'lying opportunist,' and was photographed frolicking in the sea with dancer Bryan Tanaka shortly after.
Gorka Marquez and Lauren Sheridan
December was quite the month for Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez. Not only was he attacked in Blackpool following SCD's Blackpool show, but it also transpired that he split from his fiancee Lauren Sheridan that same evening. Although neither Gorka nor Lauren spoke about the split publically, Lauren posted a cryptic message on social media, which read: "Girls always find things out, they might not say anything right away, but they know."

The pair met on TV show Bear Grylls: Mission Survive in 2015, and decided to get romantic in late 2016. However by December, it was all over. According to sources: "They realised perhaps it's best they stay pals."
Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna - the saga continues...
If there was an award for the most confusing on-again off-again couple of 2016, it would undoubtedly go to Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna. The couple first announced they were dating back in January, by April they were engaged, and in May they revealed they were expecting their first child together. And through all of it, they've dramatically split and reunited more times than we've had hot dinners! To say their relationship has been tumultuous is an understatement. Will they actually make it through 2017 together? We'll have to wait and see...
