Liam Payne’s name nearly broke the internet for all the wrong reasons last week – sparking a huge backlash on social media following a series of damaging allegations made about him by his ex-fiancée, Maya Henry.
Now, as other rumours begin to appear online, insiders say Cheryl – his ex-girlfriend and mother of his seven-year-old son, Bear – has been left worried about him.
A source says, ‘Obviously Cheryl is just extremely concerned about Liam in general right now. At the end of the day, they are co-parents to Bear, who means the world to both of them.
‘Cheryl has always tried to steer Liam in the best direction possible, but she can only do so much – and recently, as his life has become even more complicated and problematic, she’s begun to distance herself from him.’
Last week, Maya, who dated Liam for three years until 2022, blasted her ex. After she was accused of being ‘obsessed’ with him, she took to TikTok to set the record straight – telling her followers that Liam has allegedly continued to contact her since their break-up.
Liam, 31, began his relationship with Maya, 23, after splitting from Cheryl in 2018 after two years together.
The solo artist has since moved on with influencer Kate Cassidy, 25, who he started dating in October 2022, but he and Cheryl have always maintained a good relationship for the sake of Bear.
But now the insider says Cheryl, 41, is torn over her concerns for him and her fears that their relationship will be dredged up again at a time when her own life has become so much calmer.
The source says, ‘Cheryl doesn’t want Bear growing up and reading anything negative about his dad – the idea of that is really and heartbreaking.
‘Cheryl also has to think of herself, and anything said about Liam could create so much stress in her life. She’s been through enough personal scandal and she wants Liam to stand on his own two feet.
‘However, she’s always torn because of Bear and she wants to be able to tell her son she did everything she could for their family. It’s hard enough that their relationship didn’t go the distance.’
