Love Island 2020 (affectionately dubbed the winter series) only took place over six weeks in January but bombshells arrived and caused a stir, Islanders were arguing and heads turned all over the place.

The winter version of the reality show that took place in South Africa was first confirmed shortly after Love Island 2019 and there was a lot of speculation around the spin off series.

Who are the Love Island 2020 contestants? What was so different about Winter Love Island and why did it happen? And who won? Are just a few of the questions fans have googled.

So we've done a little digging - classic us - to find out the answer to those need-to-know questions...

Who won Love Island 2020?

After six weeks watching the Islanders attempt to find love in the villa Paige Turley and Finley Tapp were crowned the Love Island 2020 winners.

Runners up were Siannise Fudge and Luke Trotman and in third place were Demi Jones and Luke Mabbott and fourth place was given to Jess Gale and Ched Uzor.

What was so different about Winter Love Island?

Instead of the now iconic 'summer of love', bosses felt there was enough scope for anything Love Island that they tried their luck at a version that took place in the winter. Who wouldn't want a whole bag of Love Island. Autumn and Spring Love Islands? Just saying.

The show was also filmed in South Africa, making a welcome change from the normal Spanish villa.

Love Island 2020 Casa Amor

During our favourite time of Love Island - Casa Amor - we saw 12 new Islanders (six boys and six girls) arrive in South Africa and turn some heads.

Callum Jones fell head over heels for newbie Molly Smith, Nas Majeed recoupled with Eva Zapico, Eve started seeing Ched, Mike Boateng got together with Priscilla Anyabu and Rebecca Gormley and Jordan Waobikeze became a thing.

When did Love Island 2020 start?

The VERY FIRST Love Island filmed in the winter was announced at the end of the 2019 summer series but it wasn't until 12 January 2020 that we finally met the stars in their new island home in South Africa (yes, we know it's not an island).

How long was Love Island 2020 on for?

A source confirmed that the show would have a shorter run than the traditional summer version.

"It has been decided that the show will run for six weeks instead of the usual eight.

"The new cast of singletons fly out just days before the launch but bosses work with test Islanders to uncover the best spots in the villa to create drama," they told the Daily Mail.

Because of the short stint the final happened on February 23 2020.

Love Island's Demi Jones

Shortly after Connor Durman was booted from the villa Demi arrived alongside Wallace. However in the real world she's a style advisor at a boutique from Portsmouth. Before joining the ITV show she's teased that she has her "eyes" on Nas Majeed and Finley Tapp.

Who is Wallace Wilson?

Wallace took a particular liking to Siânnise and Rebecca but it wasn't meant to be. The 24-year-old - from Inverness - is a personal trainer.

When did Sophie Piper leave Love Island?

Rochelle Humes' younger sister was booted from the villa after the rest of the Islanders voted for her and Wallace to leave.

However there was speculation before her exit that she had secret left because during the Las Vegas challenge a lot of viewers couldn't help but notice that Sophie was absent from all the fun.

Everyone was relieved when it came to light that she hasn't left the villa instead, Iain Stirling explained that she wouldn't be partaking in the challenge because she was "sick". It comes after the boys were struck down by a secret virus that did not air on TV.

Why did Ollie Williams leave Love Island?

Love Island viewers were shocked when it came to light that Ollie Williams had left the Love Island villa after just three days.

While Ollie claims he realised that he was still in love with his ex-girlfriend and had to go home, former Islander Olivia Attwood slammed his 'fairytale' reason for leaving the show.

Callum Macleod also left fans in stitches after poking fun at his departure, however many other fans have speculated whether pictures of him posing alongside dead animals surfacing online had something to do with his sudden exit.

Ollie has since released a statement and shut down any speculation surrounding his exit.

"I had no knowledge of the stories until I had left the Love Island villa and all cast members are unaware of any news stories while they are on the programme.

"My reasons for leaving Love Island are as communicated on the show. I did not shoot any of the animals shown in the photographs nor have I ever shot as a trophy hunter."

Why was there a Love Island winter version?

According to reports, the winter version of the nation's favourite dating show will attempt to fill the reality TV gap left by Channel 5's Celebrity Big Brother, which aired its last ever season in 2018.

An insider told The Sun, "After the flop of Survival of the Fittest producers want to keep the format simple and mop up the gaping hole Celebrity Big Brother left reality TV hungry audiences.

"Winter Love Island makes sense as fans adore the drama and love triangles and everyone wants to enjoy a bit of sun on screens in the cold winter months."

Where is Love Island filmed?

The Love Island 2020 series was filmed in South Africa. Fun fact - it's the exact same villa where Miley Cyrus filmed her episode of Black Mirror.

The show, hosted by Laura Whitmore, was based in a luxury lodge-style retreat in South Africa, which promises basking hot sunshine all year round.

Paul Mortimer, Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions at ITV said, "Love Island has proven yet again to be the perfect format that engages younger audiences. In response to this viewer appetite, a new batch of young singletons will deliver some highly anticipated post-Christmas romance and drama from our new and luxurious location."

With summer in Europe always sizzling, the usual June series will continue in Mallorca.
