With Love Island back on our screens, this time for the first ever All Stars series, viewers are once again left scratching their heads on what is in those gold cups. Die-hard fans will know that producers impose a strict limit on how much the Islanders can drink while they’re in the villa, but they are allowed two glasses of wine a night.

Some Islanders have chosen to opt out altogether - one of which being two-time Islander, Anton Danyluk. While Anton did drink during his first time in the villa in Love Island 2019, he has since become sober and plans to continue this throughout his All Stars stint.

Before he re-entered the villa, he said, “I just lost my sense of purpose in life… Over the years a few bad decisions, moving to Dubai, a few bad investments, just being in the wrong environments and crowds, I just lost who I was.

“I turned to alcohol to dampen my reality because what had happened is – especially post-Love Island – I reached the high point at 24. I was making a lot of money, I had a level of fame and I pretty much had anything I could’ve wanted and I realised I wasn’t happy or fulfilled… I didn’t know what I was chasing anymore and, yeah, I turned to alcohol."

He continued, “I wasn’t an alcoholic or anything, but I was drinking three or four times a week which isn’t me as a person.

"So, on my 29th birthday I made a solid vow to myself that I was going to give up alcohol for a year, I was going to give 110% of myself every single day physically and mentally…

"I’ve honestly done that for the last five or six months now. It’s the best I’ve ever felt, I can honestly say that the alcohol thing will go pass the year point, potentially my whole life.”

He's not the first Islander to enter the villa sober. Some of the Love Island 2022 Islanders also didn't take full advantage of the perks of living in the villa as dumped Casa Amor bombshells Coco Lodge, Chyna Mills and Josh Samuel Le Grove revealed that many of the contestants chose not to drink alcohol.

According to Coco, Chyna and Josh, most of the boys decided to shun the alcohol in favour of soft drinks.

“Josh, Jay, Luca, Jacques, none of them drunk alcohol. They would have Fanta or something like that,” Coco revealed.

She joked, “And they expected me to find a match! I’ll have a wine.”

Chyna added that some of the boys would drink water, while Josh’s tipple of choice was “Fanta and pineapple juice”.

Not all of the Islanders stayed teetotal though as Chyna laughed, “I was an alcoholic and I was begging for more! That one glass was not enough for me.”

According to 2018 Island Eyal Booker, alcohol in the villa is “very, very limited.”

He previously told Closer, “Max two glasses of wine a night and that's max!"

However, Molly-Mae Hague once revealed the sneaky way Maura Higgins got around the alcohol limit. She explained, “One night Maura actually took my glass, downed it in the larder (a little room where they keep all the drinks), filled it up with water and then put it back.

"She had three glasses of wine and was so drunk. It was so funny."

Love Island 2023 finalist Molly Marsh has also spoken out about not drinking alcohol so she can be a better role model to her younger sister.

"My mom doesn’t drink, so I just followed in her footsteps… She can be confident and have a good night without it, so I’ve kind of wanted to do the same. And I have a little sister and I don’t want her to look up to me and think ‘oh, well Molly only has a good time when she has alcohol.’

"You can be confident and have a good night without it.”
