Love Island’s Kaz Kamwi has opened up about her time on series seven and revealed the lie she told producers even before she walked into the villa.
Now it’s pretty well known that getting on Love Island must be a tough gig. Back in 2018, it came to light that more people applied for Love Island than Oxford and Cambridge. We shouldn’t be surprised to be honest, we can’t all get the grades for those unis…
Anyway, once you get through the application process and the audition, producers will tell you ‘you’re not in the villa, until you’re literally IN the villa’.
So we can imagine after the long audition process you’re pretty desperate to get that all-inclusive holiday, which means most of the Islanders probably tell a few white lies.
One Islander who told the producers a lie before stepping foot in the villa is series seven’s Kaz but the reason behind it is heartbreaking.
Appearing on Whitney Adebayo’s podcast It’s Giving…, alongside series nine's Tanya Manhenga, Kaz opened up and admitted, ’The day we did the VTs and interviews, you speak to the producers and they were like, “If it was up to you at what point would you want to go into the show?”
‘I was like “I’d prefer to be an OG” and they were like, “Why?” and when they said why I was sat there thinking, “Do I tell the truth truth…?”’
She then explained her dilemma, ‘I said to them, “I’d rather be an OG because I’m not the kind of girl to walk into the villa and be like I’m taking all your men."
‘That is true but the actual reasoning for not wanting to come in as a bombshell was because I felt that when I looked at the journey of all the Black girls before me, “I was I can’t lie to you, unless I’m an OG it’s a wrap.”’
Kaz then went on to name the OG Black girls before her season and they were Samira Mighty, Yewande Biala and Leanne Amaning.
Kaz added, ‘They came in as OGs and I’d rather go in as an OG because for me it felt safe.’
Well being an OG certainly paid off because not only did Kaz make it to the final but she returned for All Stars and has recently launched her own bonnet brand.
