Love Island exclusive: Jess White reveals why Omar Nyame got an ‘unfair’ edit

'I think if that had been aired people's perceptions of them would be very different'

Negative edits are sadly part of the Love Island parcel for some Islanders these days, and they tend to fall into three main categories; the villain edit (think 'Messy' Mitch Taylor and Coco Lodge), the misrepresented edit (we'll get to that), or arguably the worst edit of them all, the edit out (think Konnor Ewudzi – seriously, where was this cutie for half the series?).

To be fair to producers, they've got a TV show to make, so if you're serving villain or serving, well, nothing at all, expect to fall into one of these categories.

The misrepresented edit is slightly more ambiguous and complicated; it means producers have chosen to either edit out a side of your personality or a storyline that doesn't fit in with their plans for how they want you to be shown to the public.

It's always interesting to talk to dumped Islanders about this one, as they know the individuals in that villa better than anyone, so if anyone's going to be able to call out a misrepresented edit it's a fellow Islander. Especially one as honest as OG Jess White.

During her recent visit to Closer HQ, we asked Jess who she believed had been misrepresented by the edit this year and without hesitation she named bombshell Omar Nyame. Omar was the third bombshell to enter the villa, and although he made a fair few friends in the villa he struggled to find that one connection and was eventually dumped on day 21.

While Omar lasted a couple of weeks inside the villa, according to his pal Jess, the public were robbed of seeing just how funny the bombshell is thanks to the edit, with Jess telling Closer Online, "I don't think his edit has been a true reflection of how he is."

Do tell, Jessica...

She revealed, "I feel like Omar has not come across how he actually was in the villa. I don't think his edit has been a true reflection of how he is. He's honestly one of the funniest people ever. Me and him got along so well.

"I feel like a lot of the scenes where me and him were having loads of chats and banter and stuff wasn't necessarily aired, and I think if that had been aired people's perceptions of him would be very different because he's very funny. So yeah, for me, I think Omar didn't get as fair an edit as maybe he should."

Jess is right; apart from that split second they formed a friendship couple together, we can't recall ever seeing Jess and Omar joking around with each other on the show.

All we can really remember is him trying it on with Mimii Ngulube and Grace Jackson and him having that awks square off with Joey Essex. Oh, and one with Sean Stone, too.
