Woman with homeless Ian Beale tattoo went on Tattoo Fixers and this is what they did…

Is that really an improvement?

The aim for most people who go on Channel 4 show Tattoo Fixers is to improve their body art they’re not too keen on.

But for Amber-May Ellis, who appeared on the programme last night, things were a little different.

Student Amber hit the headlines last year after drunkenly taking on a bet to get an inking of EastEnders' Ian Beale when he was homeless on her leg. Yes, really.

Unsurprisingly, it's a bit of an eyesore, so viewers were hardly shocked when she popped up on Tattoo Fixers.

But while the tattoo artists on the show did touch up the portrait, we're not convince they've actually made it much better.

In the original tattoo you could clearly see Ian, played by actor Adam Woodyatt, looking rough and unkempt.

But instead of covering up the tatt as they've done for other people, the fixers instead 'enhanced' the design, adding some colour, a frame and, hilariously, the words: “Keep it real like Ian Beale.”

Tweeting one of the Tattoo Fixers, an unimpressed viewer wrote: “I’m sorry @sketchreppinink I love your work but I did not like that Ian Beale tattoo!.”

Another remarked: “That woman wants her Ian Beale tattoo finished. Is she mad?”

However, some found the whole situation incredibly funny, with one person commenting: “Can’t believe the Ian Beale tattoo had a make over! Hilarious…!”

Another wrote: “So keen to see the Ian Beale tattoo, maybe it’ll inspire me.”

Giving the backstory on why she got the unusual soap tribute, Amber explained it was part of a bet and apparently a penalty for jumping into bed with someone at a party, saying: “It was last Halloween and we decided to have a Halloween party. Someone from two years below me at uni came and my friend was like, ‘Don’t sleep with him’, and I wasn’t even that interested until someone said, ‘Don’t do it’.

“They said, ‘If you do it you have to get this tattoo’, and I was like, ‘Right, OK’. In the morning, my best mate looked at me and was like, ‘So, when are you booking in your tattoo then?’”

She continued: “We had a tattoo shop round the corner from where we lived and I was a bit friendly with my old tattooist, so I got it done. But I didn’t get it finished.”
