A lot has been happening in Albert Square recently; Max Branning finally returned, Phil Mitchell had a liver transplant and Ronnie and Roxy died after drowning in a pool on Ronnie’s wedding day.

And now there might be more change, as Sam Mitchell - the feisty sister of Phil and Grant, played by Danniella Westbrook - could be set to return to the square.

Sam first entered the soap as a school girl in 1990, and has been on and off ever since. Her last appearance was in 2016, when she briefly returned to say farewell to her on-screen mum, Peggy Mitchell, but this time, it looks like she could be back for good.

A source revealed to The Sun Online: "[Now] feels like the perfect time. After Ronnie and Roxy’s deaths, Jack is at rock bottom on the show, so Sam returning would be the support he really needs to help him look after their son."

After cheating on Ricky Butcher with Jack Branning back in 2010, Sam fell pregnant with Richard (aka Ricky). In 2016, when Sam returned for her mum’s funeral, she left her son Ricky in the Square with Jack. However, after Ronnie’s death, fans of the show have seen Jack struggling to cope, which could mean now is the right time for Sam to return and help raise her son.

An insider also told the publication that after a tough few months - Danniella had a drugs relapse, and was left homeless after falling behind on house payments, - returning to Eastenders would "really lift her spirits."

We'd love to see Sam Mitchell back in the square, and reckon it would lift our spirits too!
