Everyone is obsessed with the new Love Island host Maya Jama and by everyone we mean all of us at Closer and can you really blame us?

The TV presenter is not only a style icon but she is relatable, funny and has dated Stormzy, that in itself is cool.

After the new season of the hottest show on earth kicked off all eyes were on Maya - and the Islanders obviously - with that in mind, let's take a look at what we know about the Bristol born celeb and what she's been up to before she became one of the most-watched presenters on telly.

Who is Maya Jama?

Maya is a TV presenter and DJ. She's also the new host of Love Island and has a pretty successful career behind her.

How old is Maya Jama?

Born 14 August 1994, Maya is 28 years old and her zodiac sign is of course a Leo.

Where is Maya Jama from?

Born in Bristol, Maya moved to London when she was a teenager to pursue a career in media, well that certainly worked out well.

She now resides in West London in what we imagine is a super cool flat.

How tall is Maya Jama?

The presenter is 5ft8 and seeing as Maya is often in heels she probably hits 5ft11, perhaps even 6ft.

Are we sure she isn't a model?

Is Maya Jama engaged?

Currently no, not unless she is being secret squirrel about it. Maya was previously engaged to basketball player Ben Simmons but the relationship ended in the summer of 2022 and Maya now appears to be single.

Are Maya Jama and Stormzy back together?

Well, where do we even begin with one? Maya dated the the rapper from 2015 to 2019 and when the couple broke up the world mourned he death of the one of the UK's coolest couple. Fast forward to 2022 and rumours began to circulate that the couple were giving it another go, however, Maya soon crushed all our hopes and dreams but denying the claims.

Chatting to The Sunday Times at the start of 2023, Maya confirmed that, "I’m really, really single right now."

Jesus Maya, do you ever have time to, you know, breathe?

Maya Jama on Strictly Come Dancing

Back in 2018, Maya was rumoured to appear on Strictly Come Dancing with a TV source telling The Sun, "Maya would be a great contestant on the show – she looks incredible, loves music and is already a big fan of the series.

"She’s had a busy start to the year after presenting at The Brits and landing a presenting slot at Radio One – and she doesn’t want to slow down."

Maya has previously gushed about the BBC 1 show and admitted she would love to be a contestant.

She said, "Strictly Come Dancing is amazing. I used to dance when I was younger for like a couple of years when I was about ten and I haven’t done any structured or routine dance since – well except when I’m in a club."

What is Maya Jama's net worth?

Pretty substantial. It is reported that Maya Jama's net worth is a cushty £1.5 million and now that she's the Love Island host, we can see that sky-rocketing in 2023.

Maya Jama's charity project

Back in 2020, Maya only wanted to do a good deed when she set up fundraising company Collections, aiming to raise money for the homeless by gathering and auctioning off designer outfits worn by herself and other celebrities.

But she was forced to throw in the towel after coronavirus restrictions made her latest project “impossible”.

The former Radio 1 DJ set up a business model whereby the rich and famous would donate second hand clothes which would then be nabbed at swish fundraising events for the Big Issue Foundation, but, said her business partner, “Collections runs on public events and obviously we can’t run public events at the moment".

“You can’t fundraise during a pandemic,” she continued. “Asking our supporters to spend money when families are losing their jobs and going through a hard time is insensitive

“We will continue to host fundraisers in the future but don’t need a limited company to do it.

“Instead will have more collaborations with other charities in the future.”
