Essex is a small word, especially when it comes to the world of TOWIE. The popular ITVBe show catapulted the likes of Mark Wright and Kate Wright (now Ferdinand after she married former footballer Rio in 2019) into our lives, but are the pair actually related or do they just share the same surname?
Now, we know it’s perfectly normal to just share the same surname with someone and not be related to them, but TOWIE fans were left confused after they wondered if Mark would be a guest at Kate’s wedding to Rio Ferdinand in Turkey in 2019.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote, “I’m confused. Is Mark Wright Kate’s cousin? brother? Was he at the wedding?”
Are Kate Wright and Mark Wright related?
Unfortunately, Kate and Mark are not related in any shape of form despite both of them originally hailing from Essex.
It's no wonder fans were confused though, because TOWIE, which Kate was a cast member from 2015 to 2017, is full of family members, including Joey Essex and his cousins Chloe, Frankie and Demi Sims and sisters Sam and Billie Faiers.

Mark and Sam's on/off relationship goes all the way back to when she was 16 and they met on MySpace (aw, those were the days). They briefly dated during their time on TOWIE but were never able to give things a proper go before he quit the show in 2011.

When it didn't work out, it broke my heart really... and it wasn't her fault, it was both of our fault."

Gemma and Charlie briefly dated in 2012 but split after she grew concerned about his friendship with Bobby Norris. Two years later, Charlie came out as gay during an appearance on This Morning. Who are Mark Wright’s cousins?
As a result of parents Carol and Mark Snr, the Wright family is a huge one. Many of Mark’s cousins have gone on to join reality shows, including Georgie Wright, Elliott Wright and his sister Leah Wright.
