The latest series of Strictly is well underway and it marks a special milestone for the BBC One dance competition. It’s somehow been on our screens for 20 years – and yet somehow, we haven’t aged a day.

The likes of TOWIE legend Pete Wicks, Love Island 2022’s Tasha Ghouri and EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick are all currently competing for the Glitterball trophy and now, after the first two live shows, bosses have announced a new addition.

No, it’s not a new contestant, but rather a new themed week has been introduced to celebrate 20 iconic years of Strictly.

For the first time in the show’s history, the couples will take to the ballroom floor to pay tribute to some of the most recognisable and influential people in the music industry on Icons Week.

This new week, which was exclusively announced on It Takes Two tonight (Wednesday 9 October, will be dedicated to music legends from across the decades, with the contestants dancing to songs from their favourite music heroes – and some of them might even emulate an icon.

Icons Week will be shimmying onto our screens on Saturday 2 November and the icons, songs and dances will all be revealed closer to the time.

As part of Icons Week, the professional dancers will perform a Beyoncé medley during the results show on Sunday 3 November. Johannes Radebe will channel his inner Sasha Fierce as the protagonist of the route, which means viewers can expect plenty of sass.

Icons Week joins other special weeks like Movies Week, Blackpool Week and Musicals Week in the Strictly calendar.

Blackpool Week is an annual tradition for the Strictly contestants as they compete in the famous Blackpool Tower ballroom, which is known for its history of ballroom dancing.

Recalling her first time competing in Blackpool, Strictly pro Lauren Oakley previously spoke about why it is so special. She explained, ‘I was seven. I just got my first dance partner and I remember being taken aback by how amazing it was and how dancers from all over the world were there performing and competing.’
