There will be another departure from Walford in 2018 when Johnny Carter bows out of Albert Square...

EastEnders have confirmed actor Ted Reilly, who has played the budding lawyer since 2016, is set to leave the soap early next year but have not revealed how he will make his exit.

A spokesperson for the show said, “We can confirm Ted has finished filming with EastEnders and wish him all the best for the future.”

Ted, 26, took over the role from original actor Sam Strike and has been thrust into some dramatic storylines, including earlier this year when he was shot by traumatized Ted Murray (Christopher Timothy) only to be involved in a terrible collision, when the ambulance he was travelling in was smashed into by a lorry. Unlucky!

While his exit storyline is being kept tightly under wraps for now, Johnny’s New Year will begin in terrifying style when his dad, Mick is in the firing line as Aidan’s heist spirals dangerously out of control. But before that, the Carter clan face a miserable Christmas as they’re turfed out of their beloved Queen Vic and brace themselves to move in with Linda’s mum in Watford. Good luck with that!

Ted is among several young cast members who will be leaving Walford. Jacqueline Jossa and Lorna Fitzgerald, who play Max’s daughters, Lauren and Abi Branning, have already filmed their explosive exit scenes that will air over Christmas and Harry Reid, best known as Phil’s troubled son, Ben Mitchell is also leaving in 2018.

But fear ye not, there will be familiar faces returning to Walford at the start of the New Year when Maisie Smith reprises her role as Bianca’s daughter, Tiffany, and Ian Beale is set for a shock when his former wife, Mel Owen, (played by Tamzin Outhwaite) rocks up in Albert Square on January 11.

We can't wait to see what she's got in store! Ian's not going to know what's hit him!
