Everyone, including us, has been speculating WHY Paul Coker was attacked to death after a harmless night out with his boyfriend Ben Mitchell, with some pretty detailed theories coming to light.
There was even a theory that included Max Branning killing Paul to get back at Ian Beale for sending him down for the murder of Lucy Beale.
After emotional scenes that saw Pam (Lin Blakley) blame Ben for the death of her beloved grandson – the truth surrounding the events leading up to Paul’s death have finally been revealed.
Ben thinks that it’s entirely his fault for Paul’s death, despite originally telling the police and his family that it had only been a ‘mugging’.
He later admitted everything to Johnny Carter, explaining that a homophobic gang taunted the couple as they were leaving the club. Paul begged Ben not to retaliate, but he couldn't help himself.
He said: "When we left the club we were taking selfies, laughing about something stupid
"There were these four blokes shouting at us - come on then you f-----s."
Ben then broke down, saying that Paul wanted him to "leave it", but he couldn't.
"Paul's dead because of me," he said.
Pretty emotional scenes, huh?
The news of a homophobic attack left viewers riled, especially as EastEnders failed to release a helpline on the closing credits.
Will Ben tell the police the whole truth now? Or will he consume himself with self hatred?
Is this the start of something even bigger for Ben, Pam and Les? Definitely looks that way…
