Casualty Actor Derek Thompson has been revealed to be the highest paid actor at the BBC after they published salaries

There has been absolute uproar since the BBC published the salaries of their highest-earning employees this morning.

It will come as no surprise that the list, which shows everyone who earns more than £150,000 or more, is predominantly made up of male employees.

However, what may come as a surprise is the fact that the highest paid actor at the corporation stars in Casualty.

Whilst their specific salaries have not been released, we now know the bracket that the top earners fall into.

If you'd asked us to guess, we would have thought that the highest-earning actor at the Beeb would have almost certainly come from EastEnders.

Right?!

But it turns out that the highest paid actor at BBC is Derek Thompson, who has played Nurse Charlie Fairhead in Casualty since the series began in 1986.

Yep, that's correct!

Charlie falls into the £350,000 - £399,999 bracket, whilst his co-star Amanda Mealing, who currently plays Connie Beauchamp in the soap but has also starred in Holby City, is in the £250,000 - £299,999 bracket.

Other Holby City and Casualty top earners are Rosie Marcel, who earns between £200,000 - £249,999, and Guy Henry, Hugh Quarshie, Jemma Redgrave and Catherine Shipton, who all earn £150,000 - £199,999.

So when we turn to EastEnders, once considered to be the most popular soap of THEM ALL! - we find that King of the Square Danny Dyer and Walford stalwart Adam Woodyatt are both on £200,000 - £249,999.

We must say we're a little surprised by this.

Only eight of their co-stars made the top earners' list, among them Laurie Brett, Letitia Dean, Lacey Turner and Scott Maslen all earning £150,000 - £199,999.

Other BBC actors Peter Capaldi, who's currently starring as the eponymous lead in Doctor Who, and Sir David Jason, who has been acting for 53 years, are both on £200,000 - £249,999.

WELL. What do ya make of that then!

What do YOU think about the salaries being published? Do you think it was a good thing to do? Or is it all a bit strange? Let us know over on Facebook and Twitter.
