Remember the latest series of Love Island (you know, All Stars) when The X Factor’s Ella Henderson arrived in the final episode and sung her heart out?
Iconic behaviour if you ask us but it turns out the way her Love Island stint came about was even more iconic.
When we caught up with Ella at Radio 1’s Big Weekend Luton, straight after she got off stage, she admitted that it was her hilarious Love Island audition on Instagram that bagged her a role on the show.
In case you missed it, while All Stars was airing, Ella posted a parody video of her own Love Island audition where she admitted she wants to couple up with someone who can match her “puppy golden retriever” energy.
It didn’t take long for the ITV Instagram page to notice and comment under the video, “We can make it happen Ella… 👀.”
During our chat she admitted, “That was wild. I got a phone call and within 24 hours I was on the set performing the song it was mental how quick that happened."
“Literally, the flights were longer than the time I was in South Africa to do it. It was like the quickest thing I've ever done.
“I kind of came back and I was like, 'Did that just happen?' and then all sudden it was on the telly. So yeah, that was wild because I love watching Love Island.
“I can't wait for this series as well and Maya [Jama] is looking fire,” she added.
Speaking about filming that audition video she admitted, “That was us bored in the house one day and I think we got a bit carried away.
“I think I ended up crawling on all fours on my coffee.”
Yes, she did.

Unfortunately we won’t be seeing Ella as a bombshell on Love Island because she’s engaged to her Great Britain Olympic Swimmer boyfriend Jack Burnell.
They met on a dating app back in 2020 but couldn’t meet up for nine weeks due to the restrictions.
Luckily they managed to make it work and last year Ella posted a photo wearing her ring in Mauritius with the caption, “So this happened 💍🥲☺️… here’s to life with you & all it’s adventures @jackrexburnell ♥️.”
