What is a low-calorie snack exactly?
A low-calorie snack is normally a snack below 150 calories depending on your goals, lifestyle and weight. Natural foods such as bananas, apples, almonds and cherry tomatoes are great to snack on throughout the day as they're full of micronutrients and fibre.
However, there is no need to miss out on your favourite snacks just because you are tracking what you eat. There are now heaps of low-calorie options that will satisfy a sweet tooth or a 'crunch' craving. What's more, plenty of low-calorie snacks that are available to buy online or in the supermarket are also high in fibre and protein making them a delicious yet healthy choice.
You can really have the best of both worlds.

Tips for staying on track with your calories
Make sure your calorie goal isn't too low: if you're aiming for 1200 calories or below, chances are this is far too low to be sustainable, healthy or enjoyable. Speak to a dietician or your GP for advice on the correct amount of calories you should be aiming for, whether you are looking to lose, maintain or gain weight.
Be prepared: from meal planning to ensure a cupboard filled with low-calorie snacks (see above) having good choices in arm's reach will make everything far easier and achievable.
Give yourself a break: sometimes life happens, you're due your period or you just really fancied a Domino's. Remind yourself that is completely fine and one bad day won't undo your hard work. Just try again tomorrow.
