X Factor’s Jack Walton on his mum’s lesbian affair: ‘It was a lot to take’

The 18-year-old was just about to start secondary school when his mum had an affair with a female work colleague. She then left Jack’s father for her lesbian lover.

The talent show heartthrob told The Mirror that he suffered at the hands of bullies when his parents split.

“It was a lot to take in when it all came out,” he said.

“She was still married to my dad then. It was hard to see that. My dad was heartbroken.

“Plus I was 11 when I found out and I got a lot of stick for it. All my mates were saying ‘Oh, that’s gay’, and I’d say, ‘Don’t say that about my mum’.

“I tried to explain to them what it’s like. And I’d say, ‘If it was your mum, how would you feel?”

He added: “You can’t disown your mum. If she is happy, that’s the main thing.”

Following his parent’s divorce, the singer grew up living with mum , Rachel, and her partner, Jackie.

Speaking to the newspaper, he then revealed details on his mum’s response when he asked her about her sexuality.

“She said, ‘I’m whatever you want to call me, but I’m in love with Jackie’.

“So I suppose that sums it up. I wasn’t ashamed of anything. I just wanted to tell other people.”

Shockingly, Jack has had girlfriends dump him over his family set-up.

“I’ve had a couple of girls say, ‘I’d love to go out with him, but it puts me off that his mum is a lesbian’.

“This girl I really liked, she came to my house, and she found out about my mum and said, ‘Look, I can’t do this because it makes me uncomfortable’.”

Jack took to the stage on Saturday night’s X Factor to perform a cover of Paula Abdul’s ‘Straight Up’, winning a place in next week’s live shows.
