Despite everything they’ve faced over the years, Victoria and David Beckham have worked hard to keep their relationship on track and build their brand as a loving couple. But as the pair reach a major milestone in their marriage, an unauthorised biography about their life threatens to derail them.
Set to be released this week, The House Of Beckham: Money, Sex & Power by Tom Bower, attempts to answer the question, “Are their lives as perfect as the Beckhams would like the world to believe?”
And according to sources, Posh, 50, is scared that the book will ruin everything the couple have worked so hard for.
They tell Closer, “She just feels she’s been through and sacrificed so much, to now be presented as someone who saw her marriage as a brand to realise her own ambitions. She’s worried that the angle of the book is set up to bring down their carefully constructed image as a glamorous couple, and instead portray them as work and money-obsessed people.”
Known for leaving no stone unturned in his unauthorised biographies, former journalist Tom, 77, rarely paints a sympathetic picture of his subjects. In his 2022 book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry And The War Between The Windsors, he revealed intimate details of the US-based royals’ fraught relationship with King Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton, including claims that Meghan Markle made Kate cry while at a bridesmaid fitting for her daughter Charlotte.
And Posh and Beck have plenty of scandals in their past that Tom could choose to detail, the most publicised being David’s alleged affair with his former personal assistant Rebecca Loos in 2003. Although the couple have always denied the claims, in their Netflix documentary, Beckham, Posh revealed, “It was the hardest period because it felt like the world was against us. We were against each other, if I’m being completely honest”.
Since the scandal, multiple woman have claimed to have had affairs with David – all of which he’s denied – including beauty salon owner Danielle Heath in 2004 and sex worker Irma Nici in 2010.
Despite everything, however, Victoria and David have weathered the storms and built an image of a happy family with their four children, Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 12.
The source explains, “It’s the fact that someone is digging it all up again and poking around into the really intimate parts of their life. Vic has spent a very long time fixing all those cracks, and now it feels like someone is bulldozing it all down and dragging them back there against their will – and making money out of it, too.
“No one seems to have forgotten the scandal around Rebecca Loos’ claims, despite the fact that Vic stayed the loyal wife. Her biggest fear is their marriage being presented as David cheating on her, and her begging him to stay and trying to hold on to him, despite them maintaining over the years that that’s not the case.”
And as if that wasn’t enough for Posh and David, 49, the book’s release is set to coincide with their 25th wedding anniversary on 4 July.
The insider concludes, “Victoria is livid about the upcoming book, because what was supposed to be a landmark date for them is instead going to be reliving the hell that almost broke her. Instead of being able to celebrate their marriage and the ups and downs of their journey and the love and life they have built together, it’s all coming under attack.”
