Myleene Klass has always seemed like the woman who has it all. She has had a successful career as a singer, presenter, and model, she has two beautiful children and to top it all off she’s a world class pianist.
Now, the single mother has addressed a seldom discussed issue that a lot of parents will be able to relate to - the difficulties of raising children as a lone parent.
Following the breakdown of her two-year marriage to Graham Quinn, Myleene has spoken out about the struggle of being a single mum and what it meant for her and her two daughters, Ava and Hero.
“I felt like I had failed my children,” she said.
“When I became a mum I remember thinking, ‘This is an amazing job and I finally understand what my mum went through,”
However, once the family unit that supported her crumbled, she found it extremely hard to keep it all together.
The 38 year-old ex-popstar has decided to present her own show about the struggles of being a single mum on benefits, discussing the difficulties faced by single mothers and fathers on a daily basis.
The show, Myleene Klass: Single Mum On Benefits, hopes to fight the stigma of being a lone parent, and Myleene has teamed up with unemployed mother of eight, Marie Buchan, who is famously known as the ‘Welfare Queen’. She hit the headlines recently when she claimed that she was unable to live on her benefits, which total £26,000 a year.
Myleene herself has been honest about the struggle to find enough hours in the day to keep up with the demands of two children as a single parent. She also uses the platform to tell the story of a single mother raising her three children whilst trying to keep a handle on her spiraling financial debt.
Myleene Klass: Single Mum On Benefits airs tonight at 9pm on ITV.
