Kerry Katona is reportedly in shock following the tragic death of ex-husband George Kay

George Kay - who is father to Kerry’s youngest daughter Dylan-Jorge, five - was pronounced dead yesterday.

The 39 year old was found collapsed at home and despite efforts once he was taken to hospital, doctors were unable to save him.

George's tragic death comes after he reportedly suffered a long history of drug abuse and had battled with mental health issues during his tumultuous marriage to Kerry Katona - whom he divorced in 2018.

And a source close to Kerry, 38, told The Mirror that the mum-of-five is “heartbroken”.

Kerry will no doubt have the task of breaking the sad news to the pair's daughter, nicknamed DJ - Kerry gave birth to DJ in April 2014 before marrying George that September.

“Kerry was told that George suffered an overdose and was taken to hospital, but was declared dead on arrival", her close friend told the 'paper.

“No one yet knows what he overdosed on or whether it was intentional or an accident.

“Kerry is heartbroken, he’s DJ’s dad and she loved him once.

“She can’t bear the thought of explaining to her daughter what has happened.

Kerry's friend added, “While she's not had contact with him for a long time, it is a huge shock.

“Her younger kids, Max and Heidi, who she had with Mark Croft, loved George too and called him dad.

“She has no idea what to tell them."

George recently spoke to Closer about pal Katie Price, who was bridesmaid at his wedding to Kerry.

While George told Closer he "absolutely loves Katie", he expressed his concerns that she was the source of the issues in her relationship with Kieran Hayler.

He said, "There’s only one story being told. She could have done 20 million things wrong, but the only thing that people get to hear about the marriage is how he slept with her friends. The truth is covered up so Katie can carry on with her career.

"Kieran was genuinely a good guy. All the reports about him having sex addiction – to me, that’s a lie. The only story you get to hear are all the bad things that he’s done."

George added, "By the end of their marriage I think he’d just had enough. Don’t forget that by that point, every week, Katie was being pictured in the magazines at PAs with a different bloke.

"I don’t believe she cheated on him, but something had to give and I think his affairs were a result of his pent-up frustration."

During happier times, the former professional rugby player made regular visits with Kerry to see Jordan and Kieran, popping into each other’s houses and going on days out with their kids.

Our thoughts are with George's family and friends at this sad time.
