Gareth Gates’ girlfriend Faye Brookes has banned her Pop Idol winner man from appearing on Coronation Street.
The actress, who plays Kate Connor on the ITV soap, is worried what it could mean for their relationship if the two work together.
Singer Gareth said: “I’d quite fancy a role on Coronation Street but Faye doesn’t want me there.
“She tells me that it’s her turf.”
He added to the Daily Star: “Emmerdale would have to be the one for me to join. I’d love it.”
Gareth and Faye have been together for more than five years and he hopes to follow in the footsteps of former X Factor winner Shayne Ward - who plays Aidan Connor in Corrie - by being a talent show contestant to win a part in a soap.
Meanwhile, Faye recently teased fans by saying her Coronation Street character will get a shocking new love interest.
She said: “Trust me it’s not quiet anymore! We are ready to go for this year. I’m not going to give too much away but there’s definitely something coming on the love life front.
“It’s going to shock people. I don’t think fans will guess who it is and neither is Kate, but I’m really excited and want to embrace it - and hopefully this time it will be for the long haul.”
