As she continues to recover from brain surgery after discovering a benign cyst, insiders say that Davina McCall is now looking to the future.

The TV favourite, 57, shocked fans when she revealed the news just ahead of her operation, but reassured well-wishers that her long-term partner of five years, celebrity hair stylist Michael Douglas, would be posting updates on social media.

And now a source says that Michael, 49, who revealed the op had been a success, has gone above and beyond when it comes to caring for Davina – so much so that she’s now determined to marry him in the not-too-distant future.

A source tells Closer, ‘It’s been a life-changing couple of days for Davina. She now wants to do everything on her bucket list and more. First off, yes, she'll marry Michael.

‘There have been a lot of tears, but Michael has been a pillar of strength – taking charge of the kids and looking after Davina as she recovers. It has made her think that marriage could be on the cards. No more making excuses – life really is too short for that.’

Davina and Michael first met when he styled her hair during her time presenting Big Brother from 2000 to 2010. At the time, Davina was married to her ex-husband, Matthew Robertson, with whom she shares three children – Holly, 23, Tilly, 21, and Chester, 18.

The couple, who remained firm friends, began their romantic relationship in 2019. And this isn’t the first time that Davina has made a huge personal decision following a momentous life event.

Opening up about her 2017 divorce from Matthew, Davina revealed how the tragic death of her sister, Caroline, from cancer in 2012 ultimately led her to end her unhappy marriage.

Admitting that Caroline’s passing had made her confront the personal issues she had pushed aside, Davina said of her 17-year-marriage, ‘In the end, we were living completely separate lives… And we weren’t happy.’

Now Davina and Michael do everything together, and the source says her operation has made her want to start a new chapter for them both.

The insider adds, ‘She’d previously always said they had no interest in tying the knot, but the emotions around her op have made her realise you actually have no idea what’s around the corner.

‘Right now her priority is recovery, and she’s been ordered to rest. But since the op, Davina has confided that she feels saved, and that this will open a whole new adventure in her life.’
