Corrie star Jack P Shepherd apologises after sick Manchester Dogs’ Home fire jokes

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd caused outrage this weekend when he tweeted jokes about the Manchester Dogs' Home fire.

The fire is thought to have claimed the lives of 43 dogs, but that didn't stop the Coronation Street actor making a joke out of it.

He tweeted: "I have a million hot dog jokes."

Immediately he was flooded with angry messages, to which he initially responded: "You guys need to lighten up. #GetItLightenUp."

Again this understandably did not go down well with Twitter users, with one blasting: "What an absolutely abhorrent thing to say. No excuse. Shocking and cruel."

Yesterday Jack issued a grovelling apology, insisting he'd made a donation to the dogs' home.

He said: "I sincerely apologise for any offence I have caused. This was not intended to be a malicious tweet and I didn't consider the offence it would cause.

"At the time I didn't realise the scale of the tragedy but that doesn't excuse my behaviour. I now realise how insensitive I have been.

"I have made a donation to the MCR dogs home and I'm very sorry for my behaviour."

A 14-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the fire at the rehoming centre last week.

Two volunteers risked their lives to save 150 of the animals, but tragically could not get to them all in time.

Dog lover Simon Cowell has claimed he will send the two brave rescuers on an all-inclusive holiday.
