Chanelle Hayes: ‘Another baby could risk my health’

She looked sensational in an eye-catching pink bikini on a recent break, showing off her 8st weight loss since undergoing gastric sleeve surgery last year.

And despite revealing she will “definitely marry” her mystery boyfriend of just under a year, mum-of-two Chanelle Hayes has ruled out having another baby, insisting, “Absolutely categorically, 125 per cent no. These legs are closed for business. I have done my bit for the human race. I can’t think of anything I would rather do less.”

During her pregnancy with Frankie, now four – who she shares with her ex, PE teacher Ryan Oates, Chanelle, 34, suffered such severe morning sickness that she was put on a drip and given anti-sickness tablets usually taken by patients on chemotherapy to stop her vomiting “up to 40 times a day”.

She told Closer, “Sometimes I couldn’t sleep because I was feeling so nauseous – most of the time I was delirious. I was on the verge of depression because I was shut off from the world with hardly any human contact.”

Chanelle – who’s also mum to Blakely, 11, with her ex former footballer Matthew Bates – also admitted she “hated” her baby body and “felt like a whale” during pregnancy – and insiders say she is terrified of putting her newfound health and wellbeing at risk.

A source says, “Chanelle’s spent the last 15 years in turmoil over her weight, so she won’t entertain the thought of falling pregnant again. She also had a very difficult pregnancy last time and she fears having another baby could risk her health after everything she’s worked so hard for, and is happy with two kids that keep her busy, along with her work.”

The source adds,“Her weight loss has sparked a new beginning, physically and mentally. She is training to be a nurse, and wouldn’t want anything to set her back again as she’s genuinely the happiest and most content she’s ever been.”

Chanelle’s been candid about her weight struggles over the years, revealing her unhealthy relationship with food, which has seen her fluctuate from 8st to 17.5st in the past.

In 2009, she admitted she barely ate and took laxatives before going off the rails and binge-eating junk food that saw her weight spiral. And in 2016, she revealed she’d had a hair transplant after years of yo-yo dieting left her balding.

Opening up about her binge-eating disorder, 5ft 4 Chanelle, – who now weighs 9st 5lbs – admitted, “It was horrendous. I didn’t want to see or speak to anyone. I didn’t even want to leave the house or go anywhere – I was like a hermit.

“I didn’t speak to anyone for a year. I literally saw nobody, so I definitely didn’t have a love life. I didn’t even have a life.”

She has endured a series of heartbreaks over the years, with Jade Goody’s ex, Jack Tweed, who she dated from 2011 to 2013, and a devastating split from her ex, Ryan, just two months after giving birth to Frankie, which she said left her “dying inside”.

But pals say Chanelle has finally found The One – though she has remained tight-lipped about his identity.

The source adds, “She would love to get married. She’s had bad luck with men, but now she not only has the right bloke, she also says she finally feels confident to have all eyes on her on her big day. She had a frank conversation with her man when they started dating and was clear about not wanting more kids. He accepted her decision, and it’s brought them even closer together.

“He’s a great stepdad to the boys and at last she feels like she has everything she ever wanted. She’s focused on her new chapter in 2022 as a confident, happy mum to her two beautiful boys and hopefully a wife in the not-too-distant future.”

GP Dr Stephanie De Giorgio, who specialises in obesity management and has had gastric surgery herself, says, “Gastric surgery is a lifelong commitment and will change the way you live. It isn’t an easy fix. You have to take vitamin supplements to make sure you don’t become deficient, as the body absorbs minerals from food differently after the op.

“You eat three smaller meals a day, ensuring they include protein to make you feel fuller for longer. Some patients can also become sensitive to carb-rich foods and drink, leading to a spike in insulin and resulting in them feeling faint or suffering vomiting or diarrhoea.

“Patients should also seek help with their diets post-op and any underlying psychological issues that may have led to their weight gain in the first place.”
