If you're after a quick and simple eyeliner look, there's a few tricks that will help you along the way.

Many make-up artists have said that you should start applying your eyeliner from the inner corner and working your way out and always keep a cotton bud handy to fix any mistakes. You should also make sure that your eyeliner pencil is sharp and if you opt to choose liquid eyeliner, make sure the brush is fully doused with liquid before you begin.

If you're using eyeshadow before applying eyeliner (for that smokey eye look), a tip is to map out the line where your eyeliner will sit with a darker colour eyeshadow - so you have a template ready when you go in with your pencil eyeliner.

Winged eyeliner is always on trend, right? To achieve your desired cat eye, we've got a few handy tips, whether it be a little flick or a thicker line.

  1. Work from the inside out, you'll hand will shake less.
  1. Use dots! If you map out your desired line across your lid with small dots first, it's as easy as joining them up in one sweep.
  1. Use tape! Yes really, attach medical tape to the underneath of your bottom lashes and angle it based on how you want your flick to look.
  1. If you're using a liquid pot eyeliner, wet your brush first. Just like a painting, it will glide across your skin.
  1. Rest your elbows on a steady surface, to avoid the wobbles.

How to avoid eyeliner smudges

  1. Make sure you wash and prep your skin before applying eyeliner, it's hard to forget about the eyelids, trust.
  1. Use a long-wearing or waterproof formula.
  1. Avoid applying directly onto your waterline (as it's easy to get watery eyes that cause smudges).
  1. Use setting spray or setting powder.
