Best reflective running gear: stay safe, stay stylish

Ready for your glow up? ✨

As the days get shorter and those dark evenings start creeping in, hitting the pavement for your evening run can start to feel a little, well, daunting. In fact, a new study by Gymshark has revealed that a whopping 60% of women feel unsafe running in the dark – and honestly, we get it. Winter running can be a mix of chilly air, slippery roads, and the looming worry of being unseen. But don’t hang up your running shoes just yet.

Enter reflective running gear. Gymshark for example, has just launched a sleek new range of reflective running essentials that will help you light up the night while keeping you cosy in lightweight, high-performance layers. The best part? The new designs are not only functional – they're made with the unique needs of women in mind, tackling everything from safety concerns to winter discomfort.

But it's not just about the gear – it's about the community. According to the study, 43% of women would be more likely to run outdoors in the winter or darker months if they had a buddy or group to join.

‘Running in a group not only provides motivation but, for many, offers a sense of security,’ explains Gymshark, who in response to the concern that many women feel unsafe running alone at night, have launched influencer-led run clubs designed for women to run together safely.

Closer's pick of the best running gear, at a glance:

These clubs are led by some of the most inspirational women in fitness, like Lily Lifts and What Em Wore. The groups will be meeting throughout February 2025, starting at Gymshark’s flagship store on Regent Street in London. Worth checking out if you’re in the city!

Otherwise, we’d suggest looking into running groups closer to home – or perhaps, start one yourself? It’s a great way of working out and making friends while you’re at it.

Safety first, though! We've rounded up the best reflective running gear to make sure you stay visible and confident on those after-dark adventures. Let's get glowing.
