In today’s confusing fashun news, trainer favourite Converse has released a new style of low-top in what it calls the “basic wash”.
But here’s the confusing bit – the new Chuck Taylor All Star Basic Wash style has been described as having a “absolute absence of wash” thanks to its quite frankly filthy appearance.
The Basic Wash is essentially just a sneaker that’s made to look as if it’s been worn daily for about 15 years and never been washed, and customers can pay £70 for the privilege.

Unsurprisingly, even dedicated Converse fans weren’t impressed with one saying on Twitter, “Basic wash? This is no wash? Absolute absence of wash."

Journalise Micha Frazer-Carroll, who first brought the atrocity to public consciousness, said, “[There’s] something unbearable about the idea of eventually going to clean these and knowing that there is a layer of painted on artificial dirt that you can never remove.”
