The idea that lingerie should be encompassing of all skin tones and sizes isn't a groundbreaking one, but shockingly, it is a relatively new concept for some brands.

The negative press several beauty brands' limited shade ranges have received in recent years only proves that attitudes are changing. No longer is beauty and fashion tailored solely to the thin white woman - and rightly so. We still have a long way to go but, when it comes to underwear and lingerie, the crux of the matter is: everybody wears underwear, so every body should be considered.

Gone are the days of 'nude' underwear in two shades or less, not to mention the badly designed bras with uncomfortable underwire. Instead, inclusive brands are here to stay, and black-owned businesses are popping up left, right and centre proving that sex appeal isn't limited to one skin tone.

Want to support brands that support every woman? Here are a few of our favourite underwear sets, either designed with black women in mind or with fully inclusive shade ranges, plus some designed by black women themselves so you can support the black community this Black History Month (and afterwards!)

A guide to the best shapewear that won't cost the earth

How do I measure my bra size?

It's really easy to measure your bra size at home, and you can even use a bra size calculator like this one from M&S.

If you want to work out your size manually, all you need is a soft tape measure.

First, use the tape measure to measure under your breasts around your torso in inches. This is your band size. If you get an odd number, round up to the nearest even one.

Then, use the tape measure to measure around the fullest part of your bust. Subtract your band size from your bust size and the difference in inches will give you your cup size.

For example, one inch would be an A cup, two inches a B cup, three inches a C cup, and so on.
