Ralph Bulger, the dad of murdered toddler James Bulger, wants his son's killer Jon Venables' real name released to the public
It's almost the 25th anniversary of James Bulger's death - at just two-years-old, he was abducted from his mother and tortured before being killed.
What made this case even more abhorrent was the fact that it was carried out by two 10-year-old boys - Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, who were both given new identities on their release from prison at 18-years-old.
While Thompson appears to have kept a low profile, Venables has stayed in the public eye, having committed a string of offences seeing him imprisoned over and over again.
Yesterday, he was jailed yet again, this time for 40 months after admitting owning nearly 1,200 images of child abuse - and a paedophile manual on how to have sex with children "safely."
But James' dad Ralph Bulger, 51, has had enough - and has demanded that Venables lose his lifelong anonymity for the safety of the public.
He said that 40 months was a "joke" and an "insult to the family."
He added: "We’ve got to watch this sexual deviant. We know what he’s capable of. He’s just waiting for another victim. Let’s just make sure there are no more victims."
Apparently, when he was arrested last November, Venables muttered to police: "This is my own fault. I have let people down again.
"I have had stupid urges, inquisitive. I'm not going to be seeing this for a lot of years. It's not going to be a slap on the wrist for me."
Sentencing yesterday, Mr Justice Edis said: "When you were 10-years-old, you took part in the brutal murder and torture of James Bulger. That was a crime which revolted the nation and which continues to do so even after the 25 years that has passed since it happened.
"The facts of what you did are notorious and there is no need for me to repeat them here."
