Newborn baby left blinded after stray bullet flies into family home

A five-day-old baby has been left blinded after being shot in the eye by a stray bullet.

Tiny newborn Shayne Iverson was being cradled in his father’s arms when a hunter’s bullet flew in through the window and shot him.

The the freak incident- which took place in rural Pennsylvania, USA- has been treated as an accident by local police as the bullet was shot on private property nearby the Iverson family home.

Baby Shayne was rushed to hospital where he was treated for his injuries and remains in critical condition, though doctors think there is every reason to be hopeful he will recover.

At present, medical staff are monitoring the swelling in Shayne’s brain following the shocking shooting.

A source told a local news station that- despite the boy’s horrific injuries- he was lucky to be alive.

"He will be blind. His eye actually saved his life because the bullet hit that instead of his brain."

The friend of the family also said that Shayne’s parents have been “amazing” throughout the ordeal and have forgiven those responsible for their baby son’s injuries.

"They're not holding a grudge," they said.

Shayne’s parents are reportedly asking for prayers from their local community as doctors monitor their son’s progress.
