Tragedy as newborn baby is found dead in wheelie bin

The body of a newborn baby girl has been found dumped in a wheelie bin in North Yorkshire.

A member of the public rang the police after they made the gruesome discovery, in the small town of Richmond, North Yorkshire, on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services attended the scene, a communal waste area on Whitcliffe Grange, but were unable to revive the newborn baby girl, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have now issued an appeal to locate the mother, who they believe will be in a distressed condition.

Mark Gee of North Yorkshire police said inquiries were at a ‘very early stage’ and that their primary concern was now to locate the mother to make sure she receives medical care.

‘It is highly likely that the mother is in a very distressed state and needs professional support.’

‘We urge her to contact the police or medical staff as a mater of urgency as her health and wellbeing is the priority.’
