Woman wakes up from the dead – after being put in morgue for 11 hours

A 91-year-old woman gave morgue staff the shock of their lives - after she seemingly rose from the dead.

Janina Kolkiewicz was declared dead by a family doctor and taken to the local morgue, but 11 hours later started moving in her body bag, giving staff a serious fright.

Polish officials have now launched an investigation into how the pensioner could have been sent to the morgue while she was still alive.

‘I was sure she was dead,’ Dr Czyz told Polish TV channel TVP.

‘I’m stunned, I don’t understand what happened. Her heart had stopped beating, she was no longer breathing.’

After being kept in cold storage for 11 hours, Ms Kolkiewicz complained of being chilly, and so was taken back home to warm up with some soup.

She now says she is feeling ‘normal, fine’ after the ordeal - though she’ll probably be a little suspicious about falling asleep around her family members in future.
