When Sophie Gamba started taking “party drug” ketamine, she never imagined the toll it would take on her body.

Her four-year addiction has left her health in tatters – the 23-year-old has a permanent catheter and in January she’s having her bladder removed.

At the height of her addiction, Sophie – who’s now a full-time mum to Sarah, aged 10 months – would snort £400 of ketamine a week, spending all her benefits on it and even selling her belongings to fund her habit.

Sophie first tried ketamine aged 16

Sophie has managed to get clean and says: “I’m so ashamed of what I’ve done to my body. I want people to know about my condition – they need to realise how dangerous these drugs are.”

Class B drug ketamine was originally a horse tranquiliser. It can injure the bladder, leading to ulcers and irreparable damage.

Speaking after reports revealed the UK has the biggest ketamine problem in Europe, Sophie adds: “I didn’t take the risks seriously. I loved the highs. By the time I had ‘K Bladder’ it was too late.”
