Police investigating the Madeleine McCann case have requested more funding from the Home Office

Detectives trying to find Madeleine McCann have asked for more money so that they can continue their search.

Scotland Yard, who are in charge of the search entitled Operation Grange, were granted £154,000 last September to continue their work until the end of March this year.

The Home Office has granted them new funding every six months, and a new lump of cash would take them safely through to September this year to try and find Madeleine, who would now by 14-years-old.

Over £11 million has already been spent on finding the little girl since she disappeared while on a family holiday in Portugal in 2007.

The Metropolitan Police took over the search for Madeleine in 2011, and while they have never spoken out about any leads they may have, the new request for funding must surely mean that they're hopeful they have a good lead.

This comes only two weeks after Madeleine's younger twin siblings, Sean and Amelie, celebrated their 13th birthday.

The pair, who were sharing a room with Madeleine the night she went missing, had a family party to celebrate their birthday - but one family friend revealed the event had been "marred with a tinge of sadness" since Maddie was not there.

They told The Sun: "Their only wish is for their big sister to come home."
