Father who abused teenage daughter after she found him on Facebook jailed for six years

A father who sexually abused his 13 year old daughter after she tracked him down on Facebook has been jailed today.

The 41-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, abused his daughter for a period of six months in 2009 and was handed a six year sentence at Sheffield Crown Court.

When the teenager tracked her estranged father down, she was just 13 years old.

After her mother let her visit regularly, the girl later moved in with him but shockingly, the then launched a campaign of horrific sexual abuse against her.

Prosecutor Timothy Capstick said: “She did not resist because he was her dad. She said : ‘I had only just met him so I went along with it’.

“She said she felt like hitting out but couldn't as he was her father. It happened again over a six-month period. He would have sex with her on a regular basis, every other day.”

The girl, who’s now aged 18, only told social workers what happened last year. A police investigation then found text’s on the father’s phone which suggested the abuse had taken place.

In court, the man admitted one offence of sexually assaulting his daughter and 14 offences of sexual activity with her when she was just 13.

Speaking at the sentencing, Judge Simon Lawler said: “Over a period of six months you grossly abused your position of trust.

“She was 13 and you were 41 and you took advantage of her.

“When interviewed the girl said she let you do it because you were her father. She did not want to lose what she felt she had gained and she felt he had played with her emotions.”
