A 22-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in Columbia after complaining of severe abdominal pains.
After an examination, doctors quickly came to the root of the problem - literally - and were shocked to discover a potato was growing inside the woman's vagina.
So how did it get there?
Speaking with Columbia Reports, the embarrassed woman explained that her mother had told her to pop the tatty in there as a means of avoiding unwanted pregnancy.
She said: "My mom told me that if I didn't want to get pregnant, I should put a potato up there, and I believed her."
You say 'potato', we say 'absolutely not'.
The offending root vegetable was removed without need for surgery, and there should be no lasting physical effects on the young woman.
However the attending nurse has slammed the girl's mother for giving her such bad contraceptive advice.
