His family, along with police and volunteers from his hometown in Memphis, searched all night until they finally found 7-year-old Dominic Jeffries stuck in some bushes around the corner from his home.

Despite being too small to climb out, he was alive and well - and it was all thanks to his playful dog Coco.

Speaking with US news site WREG.com, Dominic explained that he spent the bitterly cold night cuddled up to his furry best friend.

After the boy and his Shih Tzu slipped behind a brushy wood retainer wall and couldn’t climb out, they realised they would have to wait until someone found them.

But, when he noticed Coco was still cold, Dominic took off his coat and put it on the dog, then took off his gloves and put them on his feet.

As the temperature plummeted, the adorable duo fell asleep cuddled up to each other for warmth and stayed there until police officers found them.

“I don’t know where this kid gets his survival skills from but it’s just amazing,” said his legal guardian, Robbyne Manning.

She added: “That’s just the worst 14 and a half hours of my life; I wouldn’t want anyone to experience anything like that.”

At least little Dominic had a friend to keep him company through that scary night out alone - we bet he and Coco are closer than ever.
