A new app has been developed by a stillbirth charity in a bid to help expectant mothers recognise the warning signs of a stillbirth.
Kicks Countshelp pregnant women track the movement of their unborn babies, allowing them to log and create graphs to keep track of patterns and ‘normal’ baby motions.
Mums-to-be simply need to tap the app screen every time they feel movement (so no need to literally count every kick and thud), to monitor their babies movements on the womb.
The initiative is a part of the charity with the same name to educate and empower women on this tragic occurrence.
According to their site, with the Kicks Count app expectant mums can:
-
Track the times your baby will move which will help you gain an understanding of your baby’s movements
-
Enter the details of your midwife so you can contact them when you feel there is a concern
-
Find out more information about your baby’s movements and what you should be expecting
-
Download it to your Android or Apple device
Speaking to the Huffington Post, CEO of the charity said the app was not trying to stand in the way of a mother’s maternal instincts, insisting mums should still always report or seek medical help if they feel something isn’t right.
However, it can simply help women keep track, as regular movement is a key sign the baby is in good health.
She said:
“Most foetal movement apps counted to 10, which is not recommended.
“We therefore knew we needed to design an app that would help a mum track her own baby’s movements.
“The key to our app is it doesn’t stop at 10, instead it will help you determine your baby’s individual pattern.
“We feel it will make a real difference to women who want to keep track of their baby’s progress.
