Let's be honest, EastEnders back in the early noughties was iconic.

From the Slater family rocking up on the Square, Johnny Allen causing havoc in Walford and of course, Dirty Den (played by Leslie Grantham) getting killed following a chaotic night with Zoe Slater (played by Michelle Ryan), Sam Mitchell (played by Kim Medcalf) and Chrissie Watts (played by Tracey Ann Oberman) - the Albert Square residents have kept us entertained over the years.

Speaking of Chrissie, she joined the show in April 2004 and left in December 2005. It was a short but sweet stint so we've decided to see what the Walford resident and soap star is doing now...

What happened to Chrissie Watts on EastEnders?

Chrissie quickly became a staple of the early noughties EastEnders era. A lot of her character arc was focused on her troubled marriage to Walford icon Den Watts.

Chrissie arrived in the Square in search of her estranged husband after he sold the bar they owned in Spain, took the money without her knowledge and abandoned her in Spain. When she arrived, she discovered he had an ex-wife Angie Watts (played by Anita Dobson) and three children Vicki Fowler (played by Scarlett Alice Johnson), Dennis Rickman (played by Nigel Harman) and adopted daughter Sharon Watts (played by Letita Dean).

She then went on to settle into life in Albert Square but was stunned when her best friend Kate Morton (played by Jill Halfpenny) had been sleeping with Den. She eventually forgave Kate but threatened Dirty Den by telling him, she'll kill him if he is ever unfaithful again.

And it wasn't long before Chrissie discovered that he had been cheating on her again but this time with Zoe Slater and she was pregnant with his baby.

The storyline ended in one of EastEnders' most iconic scenes when Chrissie killed Den during the 20th anniversary episode. After scheming with Zoe and Sam, they confronted Dirty Den but when he attacked Chrissie, Zoe used a doorstop and hit him on the head.

However it was Chrissie who delivered the fatal blow after he told her “You’ll never get me out of The Vic.”

Erm, we have some news for you Den…

After Zoe left Walford and Sam was wrongfully imprisoned, Chrissy was eventually arrested for killing Den. She pled guilty and was sentenced to life in prison.

Will Chrissie return to EastEnders?

Tracy recently appeared on Lorraine and spoke about returning to EastEnders. "She’s served longer than most actual murdering prisoners and if she’d had a better lawyer, she would have got mitigating circumstances.

"Listen, what do they say? Never say never."

And there may be hope, as Tracy later asked EastEnders' producer Chris Clenshaw to give her a follow on social media. We say watch this space. Tracy might just bring her villainous self back to the Square.
