Ruth Langsford has hit out at reality stars who “get an overnight job on the telly” amid reports she’s been replaced on This Morning by former Big Brother star Alison Hammond.
It was claimed earlier this week that Ruth and her husband Eamonn have been axed from their long-term role hosting the ITV daytime show on Fridays and during school holidays, when regular presenters Holly Willoughbyand Phillip Schofield are off work.
Bosses have reportedly decided to shake things up by giving Ruth and Eamonn’s slot to Alison, who has regularly appeared on the show since 2003, and Dermot O’Leary after their one-off show was well-received by viewers.
Ruth and her husband were allegedly left “furious” by ITV bosses’ decision and in a recently published interview, which was actually conducted five weeks before the shake-up was revealed, she spoke of how they “put the work in” to get to where they are.
“We didn't do a reality show and get an overnight job on the telly. We've come up through the ranks,” she told Notebook magazine.
“Eamonn was only 19 when he started out. And he was doing the teatime news in Belfast during The Troubles. It was heavy stuff. And he's now got an OBE for services to broadcasting.”

But a spokesperson for the 60-year-old has insisted her comments weren’t aimed at anyone in particular.
They said, “Ruth was simply illustrating a point that whereas some presenters launch their careers by being on other TV programmes first, her and Eamonn's experience and career paths had taken a different and more traditional path.
“This wasn't directed at anyone in particular - indeed she has always been supportive of a number of her professional colleagues and friends who have taken this route."

Speaking of the decision to replace Ruth and Eamonn, a TV insider revealed, “It’s time for a change and [Alison and Dermot] are perfect.”
“Eamonn is pretty furious and everyone feels for him and Ruth, they are well liked on the team, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made,” they added to the Mirror.
However, an ITV spokesperson has insisted that no changes have been made to the This Morning line-up just yet.
They told Metro, “We have a stellar presenting line up on This Morning in Holly and Phillip and Eamonn and Ruth.
“Any additions to this line up will be announced in due course.”
