Strictly Come Dancingjudge Shirley Ballas was left feeling very embarrassed during last night's show after she critiqued paralympian Jonnie Peacock.'s performance by making 'accidentally' making a 'amputee pun'.
Jonnie, who lost his leg below the knee after contracting Mengitius as a child, performed a sensational routine with dance partner Oti Mabuse.
The Strictly panel judges were thrilled with the performance, however viewers felt the line was crossed when Shirley Ballas announced that Jonnie had e put a new meaning to putting a "spring in your step".
The Head Judge told the spots star, "You bring a whole new meaning to putting a spring in your step. It was light, it was bright."
To which Jonnie quipped, "Excuse the pun!"
Shirley initially didn't understand what was happening, so Jonnie repeated again 'excuse the pun!'
When Shirley realised in horror what she had said, fellow judge Darcey Bussell gave Shirley a comforting pat on the shoulder.
The 57-year-old then said, 'I’ve said something wrong again, you know what I mean? But anyway…"
Viewers were LIVID with Shirley's 'amputee pun'. One wrote: "Did a judge on strictly HONESTLY tell a Paralympian with a prosthetic leg that he brought a new meaning to putting a 'spring in your step'??"
Another wrote: "Shirley must have wanted the world to swallow her up #nopunintended".
However, some fans were more forgiving.
Shirley has yet to comment on the backlash, though has thanked fans for their 'love and support' and uploaded a snap of her in a floor-length blue frock with a gorgeous backless detail.
