In a shock exit, This Morning’s Eammon Holmes has decided to step down from his 15-year hosting gig, seemingly leaving his wife Ruth Langsford in the lurch.
It’s alleged his decision stems from wanting to join “anti-woke” news channels, after he ruffled the feathers of ITV bosses at the height of the pandemic by hinting at conspiracy theories that linked coronavirus to 5G phone masts.
His comments sparked Ofcom complaints and he was forced to clarify his statements the following day. Despite the attempted damage control, a few months later, he and wife Ruth Langsford, both 61, were dropped from their Friday slot and replaced by Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.
Eamonn is now thought to be joining beleaguered channel GB news, where he is expected to have his own show several times a week. He is not short of opportunities, but it is uncertain what their TV-presenting partnership split means for Ruth.
A favourite with viewers, it is unlikely she will remain on the show without her husband. She is, however, expected to continue as a regular on Loose Women.
