It was an incredible end to an incredible decade last year for reality telly hun Alison Hammond when she landed the role of This Morning presenter alongside pint-sized fitlord Dermot O’Leary, taking over Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes’ Friday show.

Alison had been a part of the ITV morning telly family after her career-starting turn on the third ever series of Big Brother in 2002 saw her swiftly invited to join the Loose Women panel as a guest.

It wasn’t long before she was asked back on a more regular basis, later landing as a job on the channel’s flagship morning show, This Morning, interviewing some of Hollywood’s hottest (and we don’t say that lightly – Harry Styles, Hugh Jackman, Harrison Ford… you name them, she’s interviewed them).

But her infectious personality and lovable Brummie accent also makes her five-star reality TV fodder, and there’s not been a reality show she hasn’t done in her twenty years in the limelight.

But it was her time in the Big Brother house, among other household names like Kate Lawler and Jade Goody house that really launched her rising star, and she left 11th place - WHAT were we thinking?

But don't go thinking that megawatt celebrity interviews were the one string to her bow, think again. She's been a regular fixture on reality TV ever since 2002, and in 2004 joined Celebrity Fit Club.

It was only a matter of time really, wasn't it? In 2010, the fate of her career was well and truly sealed when she was invited into the jungle alongside Stacey Solomon, Gillian McKeith and Shaun Ryder, placing 10th.

Slightly less high-profile (but undoubtedly a whole lot more luxurious - even with the on-board toilets), in 2012 she starred on Celebrity Coach Trip where she visited Trieste, Italy, and Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Fast forward to 2014 and she joined the celebrity line up of MasterChef, but despite her best efforts in the kitchen missed on first place to actress Sophie Thompson.

Later in 2014, Alison, the humble gal from Birmingham, scored the holy trifecta of reality TV when she took part in Strictly Come Dancing with pro dancer Aljaž Škorjanec, placing 10th.

Possibly one of the most underrated reality TV shows of the decade, the Celebrity Haunted Mansion opened it's doors to Alison in 2018, along with the likes of Simon from Blue, Katie Price, Luisa Zissman, Made In Chelsea's Marc Frances, TOWIE's Lydia Bright, and Corrie's Simon Gregson. WTH?

In 2019, Alison joined the cast of one of our fave dating shows, Celebs Go Dating. She had something of a romantic dalliance with TOWIE's James Lock, an obligatory break down on the agency sofa, and cemented herself as queen of our hearts.

During the pandemic, Alison turned her hand to some serious reporting when she went back to school for an ITV documentary by the same name in a bid to have Black history added into the UK curriculum. Noble work indeed.

The ultimate career highlight: in late 2020, Alison landed the coveted role of This Morning host alongside Dermot O'Leary, taking over the Friday show from Ruth and Eamonn Holmes.

The announcement that Alison and Dermot would be taking over from Ruth and Eamonn after fourteen years came after weeks of rumours, with ITV initially keeping coy about the shake-up.

But in November it was confirmed that the duo would be taking the helm in January 2021, and within weeks the risk proved to be well worth it when the ratings were revealed.

Despite many fans vowing the boycott the Friday show after long-term hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes were dropped, the new duo have actually upped viewing figures by 44% from this time last year.

But, according to reports, former Big Brother star Alison originally turned down her new role over “tokenism” fears amid claims This Morning bosses were looking to improve diversity on the show.

A source revealed, “Alison has been on This Morning for more than a decade and had never been offered this job before. Then Martin Frizell makes a big announcement that he wants a black presenter and she is wanted for the role.

Ruth Langsford breaks silence as ITV confirm This Morning replacement

“Alison was happy as she was, she loved interviewing the likes of George Clooney. She is amazing at it and it was enough for her,” they added to the Mail on Sunday.

It’s said that Alison finally decided to accept the job after speaking to Ruth, who encouraged her to take on the role.

Responding to the reports, an ITV spokesperson said, “To suggest that Alison’s position on This Morning is a result of anything other than talent and popularity with viewers is completely untrue.”
