Talking to Lorraine on her ITV breakfast show, Craig revelaed that he not only "really hopes" that there might soon be same-sex dancing couples on Strictly, but that he thinks it could happen as soon as next year.
"In the world of competition there are same-sex couples that do it as well so there is no reason why that can’t happen. It’s just I guess the Beeb have to decide whether they want to do that one year and I think it’ll probably happen next year.”
Answering those who might argue that same-sex dancing couples simply wouldn't work, Craig countered: "You only have to decide who’s going to go backwards really, don’t you. That’s the only difference.”
What's more, the respected dancer and choreographer revealed that there was actually historical and cultural precedent for this update, explaining: "When you consider the tango was originally danced between two men anyway. It’s amazing - seeing Argentine Tango between two men is powerful and explosive and the same can happen between two women."
And although Craig is known for his harsh marking, he proved that deep down, he's a real softy, adding: "“It’s great to celebrate anyone’s sexuality... there’s nothing wrong, I mean you can get married now can’t you?"
