South African restaurateur Prue Leith has been offered a fee which is three times what Mary Berry was paid to star on the new Channel 4 show
Although it's not been 100% confirmed yet that Prue Leith will take over from Mary Berry as the new host of The Great British Bake Off alongside Paul Hollywood when it moves to Channel 4, there have been a LOT of hints that she will.
South African restaurateur Prue, 77, confirmed that she was in the running for the Bake Off role to the BBC at a charity event last month. She called the judging role a "dream", adding that she was "certainly one of the runners".
She continued: "I can wish. I can dream. I've had two auditions with them and lots of meetings. So I mean I think I'm close but I know there are two people in the running. One other person.
"Of course I'd love to do it. Who wouldn't want to do it? I've known Mary for years and she loved it."
But it has today been revealed that the Great British Menu star has been offered a whopping £200,000 to appear on the show - almost three times higher than Mary's £70,000-per-series fee.
According to The Sun, an insider has revealed that Prue is going to sign a deal which will see her earnings dwarf what Mary and Paul were paid by the BBC.
A source told the paper: "Prue is a cooking legend and has a lot of respect in the food world.
"Bake Off had a relatively low budget which didn't increase even as its popularity went through the roof. That meant the stars were left on very low salaries in relation to the show's huge success.
"Prue will be on a lot of money but it's not an unexpected amount for one of the main faces on a show as big as Bake Off to be earning."
