Some truly shocking Great British Bake Off news has emerged that has left us feeling utterly cheated - judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry DO NOT bake the cakes they use as examples for contestants on the programme.

Alright, so we probably won’t lose much sleep, but we are struggling to believe Paul and Mary would deceive us in such a way.

The desserts the pair show off on screen are actually made by experts hired by the production company, and they’re baked while Paul and Mary are in hair and make-up before filming starts.

Once they’re ready, the judges present the cake in front of the cameras and contestants and explain how it was made, despite them not making it at all.

An insider told The Sun on Sunday: "Mary and Paul have never made a single cake in the tent.

"Paul in particular often talks about what 'we' have done, so it will come as a shock to fans."

A spokesperson for Love Productions, the company that makes the BBC series, said: "No, Paul and Mary don’t make the cakes. They never have.

"They are baked on the day and Paul and Mary could never do that."

The current series finale of the Great British Bake Off is set to air on BBC1 this Wednesday.
